Two Pedestrians Struck by Car - One dead and another critically injured NR11551gb

Los Angeles: LAPD West Traffic Division (WTD) detectives are looking for witnesses to a traffic accident in which two pedestrians walking in a crosswalk were run over, killing one and critically injuring the other.

On November 22, 2011, at about 6:15 a.m., 88-year-old Berish Landau of Los Angeles and
59-year-old Samuel Jacobs of Valley Village were walking in the crosswalk at Oakwood Avenue and La Brea Boulevard.  A male White, 27-years of age, from Los Angeles, driving a 1999 Plymouth Voyager northbound on La Brea Boulevard hit both men as they walked across the street.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedic personnel responded to the location and transported the victims to a local hospital.  Shortly after arriving Mr. Landau died from his injuries. Mr. Jacobs’ condition was listed as critical.

This appears to have been a terrible accident and the driver was not arrested.  The driver and victims were all part of a close knit Jewish Community, which is has been deeply saddened by the incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed this traffic accident is asked to contact WTD Detective Faiza Arain at 213-473-0222.  During non business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone. All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
