email Captain Goddard was born in Huntington Beach, California. As far
back as Captain Goddard can remember he has always wanted to be a
police officer to "Protect and Serve" others. At the age of 15 he
became a Law Enforcement Explorer with the Westminster Police
Department and served there for four years. This is where he
received a glimpse into the law enforcement profession and fell in
love with it.

Captain Goddard went on a ride-a-long with the Los Angeles Police
Department (LAPD) and knew it was the organization he wanted to be
a part of to serve the City of Angels. Three days before his 21st
birthday, Captain Goddard was sworn in as a LAPD officer, which
still to this day is the best birthday present he has ever

As a police officer, Captain Goddard has worked as a patrol
officer, detective school car officer, training officer, and a vice
investigator. These assignments have been within South, Central and
West Bureaus. In 2002 Captain Goddard was promoted to sergeant in
Southeast Area where he was assigned for three years, then moved to
Internal Affairs Group, Training Division, the Office of the Chief
of Staff as a Chief's Aide, and finally to Personnel and Training
Bureau where he served as the Department Uniform Coordinator.

On New Year's Day 2012 Captain Goddard was promoted to Lieutenant
and began his new assignment in West Los Angeles Area as a Watch
Commander. In 2013 he became the Detective Commanding Officer in
charge of all criminal investigations for West Los Angeles (WLA)
Area and significantly contributed to WLA's crime fighting
strategies. After six years at WLA, Captain Goddard moved to
Pacific Area in October 2017 as the Pacific Detective Division,
Commanding Officer where he served until his promotion to Captain
as the new Patrol Commanding Officer at WLA Patrol Division.

After completing his first year with LAPD, Captain Goddard went
back to school and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
from California State University, Long Beach. Captain Goddard also
dreamed of one day becoming a "Trojan" and in 2009 he graduated
with a master's degree in Leadership and a Graduate Certificate in
Public Management from the University of Southern California.

Captain Goddard attended the California Peace Officer Standards and
Training Supervisory Leadership Institute (Class 231), the LAPD's
Leadership Program, and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation National Academy in Quantico, Virginia (Session

Captain Randy Goddard has been blessed with a wonderful wife and
two wonderful kids. He and spends as much time as possible with his
family and is dedicated to his Faith.
