Hot Prowl - Felony Assault Investigation
REWARD EXPIRED - CASE SOLVED
Robbery-Homicide Division Detectives are investigating a series of Hot Prowl-Felony Assault incidents occurring in the area surrounding the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where there are numerous student housing accommodations.
These incidents occurred in the early morning hours of March 4, 1999. In all six incidents, the suspect entered the victims' residences via an unlocked door or window. In the first three occurrences, the suspect fled when confronted by the residents. In the last instance, the suspect engaged in a physical confrontation with the victim and her roommate, causing injuries resulting in the victim's hospitalization. No weapon other than bodily force was used.
The LAPD is advising all residents to keep their doors and windows locked at all times. If locks are broken, residents should contact their building managers for repairs. Neighborhood Watch techniques should be applied, and police immediately notified of any suspicious activity, or suspects matching the following description:
Male, African-American, 5'8" to 5'10" tall, 150 to 180 pounds, 20 to 30 years of age. Suspect possibly has a shaved head or short, tight, curly hair, and is described as clean cut. Councilmembers Ruth Galanter and Michael Feuer were both present during the press conference to announce an emergency Council Motion for a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) responsible for these offenses.
Anyone with information should contact Detectives Correa or Alviani, Robbery-Homicide Division at 213-485-2921. Contact during non-business hours should be made to Detective Headquarters Division at 213-485-2504.
