NFL Football Player Arrested for Assault

Los Angeles: Yesterday morning, professional football player Ricky Manning Jr. of the Chicago Bears was arrested for beating a customer at a Denny's Restaurant in West Los Angeles.

On April 23, 2006, at about 3:10 a.m., officers were dispatched to a battery radio call in the 1000 block of Tiverton Avenue. Investigators said that the victim was inside the restaurant working on his computer when he got into an argument with a group of four to five men that were sitting at a nearby table. The group hit the victim numerous times and left the location in a white SUV.

According to authorities, a police helicopter saw the suspect's vehicle and directed the officers to the vehicle where two occupants were detained. The victim was able to identify Ricky Manning Jr. as one of the men that hit him. The other men, only described as Black males, are still outstanding.

The victim was treated for cuts and bruises to his face.

Manning was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, and his bail amount was set at $30,000 which he posted.
