On February 18, 2008, at about 6:10 p.m., 20 year-old, Whitney Staggs, a resident of the West Los Angeles area, was crossing the street at Cotner Avenue and the San Diego freeway on-ramp at Santa Monica Blvd. As she was crossing the street a possible gold colored 4-door sedan made a right turn from westbound Santa Monica Blvd., to either the freeway on-ramp or Cotner Avenue and struck Ms. Staggs while she was in the crosswalk.
After striking her with the car, the driver failed to stop and render aid to her. Ms. Staggs was hospitalized for five days for head trauma. She is recovering but is still in pain from her injuries.
