POLICE OFFICER 3+1 ZACHARY HUTCHINGS
WEST TRAFFIC DIVISION DETECTIVE OF THE YEAR
Police Officer 3+1 Zachary Hutchings, Serial No. 32091, an 11-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), is West Traffic Division’s (WTD) choice for Detective of the Year.
In June of 2005, Hutchings was assigned to WTD Detective Section, as a follow-up investigator. He brought several years of traffic-related experience and a sincere willingness to provide the community with outstanding service. Hutchings works diligently on every case he receives. His personal goal is to identify all suspects and work closely with the victims to ensure they receive the quality service they expect. He is known to be aggressive in pursuing suspects and yet compassionate with victims and/or families of serious injuries or fatal collisions. During 2006, Officer Hutchings was assigned 481 criminal cases to investigate. This is the highest number of cases assigned to single investigator in the Section. He is a motivated team member whose initiative enables him to complete investigations quickly and thoroughly. Many of his cases require extensive work on a daily basis, in order to identify the perpetrator. Without exceptional interrogation, investigation, and time and case management skills, an investigator cannot achieve such results. Throughout 2006, Officer Hutchings has maintained the highest overall clearance rate in the Section; he solved 83% of all his cases. Department wide, this is an outstanding accomplishment.
Officer Zachary Hutchings is dedicated to community service and making Los Angeles a safer environment in which to live. His pursuit of excellence makes him an outstanding LAPD/WTD selection in Detective category as the 2006 candidate.
