Captain Steven Zipperman joined the Los Angeles Police Department in March of 1979. As a police officer, he worked numerous assignments including patrol, special problems unit, vice, narcotics and Metropolitan Division. After being promoted to sergeant in 1986, he worked a variety of assignments including, patrol operations, vice, administrative staff research, adjutant and Internal Affairs. Steve promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 1994 and worked as a patrol watch commander and a bureau vice coordinator and adjutant. In April 1996, he promoted to Lieutenant II and was assigned to Metropolitan Division where he held the positions of Officer in Charge of Operations Section, Mounted Platoon, K-9 Platoon and Assistant Officer in Charge of the Special Weapons and Tactics Platoon. Steve promoted to rank of Captain on October 15, 2006, and is currently assigned as the commanding officer of West Valley Division.
Captain Zipperman received an AA degree from Los Angeles Pierce College, a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Cal State University, Bakersfield, and a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership from Woodbury University. Captain Zipperman attended the Department-sponsored West Point Leadership Program and the Valley Leadership Institute. His professional organization memberships include The National Tactical Officer's Association (NTOA) and the California Association of Tactical Officers (CATO).
During his spare time he enjoys all types of family activities, including camping and supporting his children's many sports activities. Steve's wife is also an LAPD officer, assigned as a supervisory detective in Commercial Crimes Division.
