Captain Nicholas Zingo was born in Detroit Michigan. Captain Zingo began his law enforcement career with the Detroit Police Department in 1972.  His decision to become a law enforcement officer was molded by the Jack Webb police dramas Dragnet and Adam 12. After encouragement from family members to seek out his dream, he relocated and proudly joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1975.

Captain Zingo began his LAPD career as a probationary officer in Wilshire Patrol Division; and subsequently moved on to work a variety of assignments including Hollywood Patrol Division, Pacific Patrol Division, and Van Nuys Patrol Division. In his various assignments he served as a Field Training Officer and a Senior Lead Officer.  He has worked Foothill and Pacific Area Vice and the Hollywood Prostitution Enforcement (PED) detail.

In February of 1992 Captain Zingo was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to the North Hollywood Patrol Division as a Watch Commander. It was while in North Hollywood that he received the Police Star for actions during the infamous February 1997 Bank of America Robbery.

In 1994, Captain Zingo was upgraded to Lieutenant II and assigned to Juvenile Division, Officer-in-Charge, Juvenile Narcotics Section.  In 2002, he was selected for Training Division, during which he served as the Officer-in-Charge, Davis Training Facility and the Elysian Park Training Facility overseeing Firearms, Tactics, EVOC and the Counter Terrorism Training Unit.

In 2008, Captain Zingo was selected as the Adjutant to Deputy Chief Sandy Jo MacArthur, Commanding Officer, Incident Management and Training Bureau.

In December 2008 Captain Zingo was promoted to his current rank and assigned to Operations Valley Bureau, West Valley Patrol Division.

Captain Zingo has been awarded an Associates of Arts in Administration of Justice from the University of Detroit Mercy, a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Administration from the California State University at Long Beach.

He attended the FBI National Academy, Class 234 in 2008.  He completed an FBI Executive Fellowship in 1998-1999, and is a graduate from the West Point Leadership Development Program.  He possesses a State of California Community College Instructor Teaching Credential and is a member of the Police Officers' Association of Los Angeles County (POLAC), and a member of the POLAC Training Committee.
