Judi Breskin retired from the Los Angeles Unified School District after 25 years of dedicated service. After her retirement in 1997, she continued to serve her community by volunteering her time to the Los Angeles police Department.
Judi is assigned to the West Valley Area Detectives Reception Front Counter. With her years of experience, she knows what question to ask in order to quickly and efficiently direct citizens who walk in or telephonically call, to the concerned Detective or proper information source.
Judi possesses a calm demeanor and no nonsense approach which is a valuable asset when dealing with a hectic environment at the reception desk and handling sometimes difficult and upset citizens.
Due to Detective staffing shortages, Judi often works alone. Thus, Judi is routinely entrusted to use her good judgment and common sense in dealing with the issues that arise at the Detectives Front Counter. Judi also assist the Detective Commanding Officer’s Secretary in various duties, while completing her main duty of processing all detectives’ follow-up reports, copying, and distributing them to the proper entities. While processing the reports, she ensures that they are first reviewed by a supervisor; that the report tracking and booking numbers are correct; and any firearms that are stolen or in the case of multiple clearances, have required copies distributed.
Judi takes her job duties extremely serious and with total dedication and loyalty to the Department. Judi even came in on her scheduled work days while recovering from a broken rib injury to ensure that the follow-ups were processed in a timely manner. She has also trained several new volunteers and student workers.
Judi possesses a calm, assertive and reassuring interpersonal style. She is a consummate team player and displays complete dedication and loyalty. Judi is truly a critical part of our West Valley Team.
Based on Judi Breskin’s countless contributions, West Valley Area is proud to select her as the Volunteer of the Year for 2008.
