Man Found Shot to Death in His Car

Los Angeles: On October 7, 2003, at 7:20 a.m., West Valley Area officers responded to an ambulance shooting radio call in the 7300 block of Variel Avenue, Canoga Park. Upon their arrival, the officers were directed by witnesses to a vehicle parked in a carport at the front of the location. The officers discovered the body of a male Hispanic, identified as 30-year-old Jose Luis Rosa, lying dead in the car.
Witnesses to the crime were located and indicated that the victim, who lives in the complex where the shooting occurred, had walked from his apartment to his car when a lone male gunman approached him. As the victim entered his car the suspect fired several rounds from a handgun at the victim, striking him in the head and upper torso. The suspect, described as a male Hispanic wearing a gray sweatshirt with a hood, fled on foot.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the location and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The motive for the crime is unknown. No suspects have been identified or arrested at this time.
