Bio

Commander Rafael Ramirez was born and raised in the City of Los Angeles (Hollenbeck Area) and attended Don Bosco Technical Institute, in Rosemead.

He joined the Los Angels Police Department in February 1990, and has worked as a patrol officer, vice officer, detective, sergeant and lieutenant.

Rafael has worked several Patrol Divisions throughout the City, including Wilshire, Southeast, Pacific, and Foothill Areas. He was promoted to detective in Hollywood Area and promoted to sergeant at West Valley Division. As a sergeant, Rafael was a field supervisor and the officer-in-charge (OIC) of the vice unit. Rafael was assigned as a sergeant in Operation ABC at Detective Support and Vice Division for over seven years. This assignment allowed him to work with vice units throughout the city and to work in partnership with outside agencies.

He was also a lead instructor for the Department’s Standardized Training for Alcohol Retailers (STAR) program. During this time at DSVD, Rafael attended California State University, Los Angeles, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Shortly after graduating in 2008, he promoted to lieutenant and was assigned to the Van Nuys Patrol Division as a watch commander. He was then assigned as the Adjutant in Operations-Central Bureau. Most recently, he was assigned to Metropolitan Division as the Officer-in-Charge of C-Platoon.

Rafael was promoted to Captain on June 15, 2014 and was assigned to the Topanga Area.
