Robbery in Progress Turns Deadly

Robbery-Homicide Division (RHD) is investigating a murder that occurred in Pacific Area on November 30, 1999.

On Tuesday, November 30, 1999 at approximately 9:20 P.M., the Los Angeles Police Department received a 911 telephone call that a robbery was in progress at a single family residence in the 7300 block of Rindge Avenue in Playa Del Rey. Officers assigned to Pacific Area responded and conducted a search of the residence. During the search, the officers discovered the body of a male in an office located to the rear of the residence. It appeared the male had been the victim of a homicide.

The subsequent preliminary investigation revealed that a female housekeeper was inside the residence when she was suddenly confronted by two male suspects. The suspects bound the housekeeper and ordered her to remain in a bedroom of the residence. A short time later, the housekeeper heard two gunshots originating from the rear office area of the residence. The housekeeper ultimately freed herself and called 911.

The decedent has been identified as 60-year old Jagjit Singh Sehdeva, a physician who resided at the residence with his wife. It appeared the victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. The housekeeper was not injured.

It has been determined that a floor safe was removed from the residence. The investigation is continuing. The suspects have not been identified.
