Police Officers Confront Man With A Gun

On Sunday, December 5, 1999, at approximately 6:55 P.M., Southeast Area uniformed patrol officers Samuel Marullo, Serial No. 33567, 27 years old, 3 years with the Department, and Benjamin Perez, Serial No. 33573, 33 years old, 3 years with the Department, were driving westbound on 104th Street when they observed a man walking across the street holding a gun in his hand. The officers exited their police vehicle, identified themselves and Officer Marullo ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect then pointed the weapon at Officer Marullo and Marullo fired one round, striking the suspect in the upper torso.

The suspect was transported by Los Angles City Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

The suspect’s weapon was recovered at the scene.

Robbery Homicide Division is conducting the investigation.
