High School Threatened

Hollywood – On Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Los Angeles Unified School District Police Officers observed graffiti on the campus of Fairfax High School, located at 7850 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood. The graffiti warned of a shooting that was to occur on the campus on April 18, 2001.
At approximately 3:00 p.m., Hollywood Area officers became aware of the criminal threat at Fairfax High School. Hollywood Area patrol officers and detectives immediately formulated a plan, which included interviewing faculty at the high school. Based on their interviews, two students were identified as possible suspects. School administration conducted administrative searches on the lockers of the two students, which revealed no evidence to corroborate the threat. Hollywood Area detectives and officers then conducted follow-ups to the residence of both parents. They obtained consent to search the residence of both students. The search of each residence revealed no evidence to corroborate a criminal threat against Fairfax High School.
Detectives from Criminal Conspiracy Section assumed the follow-up responsibilities into the criminal threat against Fairfax High School. Hollywood Area officers and detectives have formulated an incident response plan for Fairfax High School which includes added police presence on campus.
