LAPD Arrests Serial Robber and Seeks Witness for $10,000 Reward

REWARD EXPIRED – CASE SOLVED – SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

On May 20, 1999, at approximately 9:50 p.m., uniformed Los Angeles Police officers working patrol in the Hollywood Area, were alerted by an unidentified witness about a possible crime in progress in the 1100 block of Wilcox Place, in Hollywood. The officers responded and observed two women who had just been robbed. The two women pointed out their assailant and a short foot pursuit ensued. Miguel Antonio Holguin, 26 years of age and a resident of Los Angeles, was taken into custody. During the subsequent search for evidence, Metropolitan Division K-9 officers located and recovered a fully loaded .44 magnum revolver.

Subsequent investigation has linked Holguin to the series of robberies that is being investigated by detectives from Hollywood, Wilshire, West Los Angeles and Pacific Areas, as well as the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department’s West Hollywood Station and the Beverly Hills Police Department. That series of crimes was the subject of a news conference on May 13, 1999. At that time, an announcement was made regarding a $10,000 reward which was introduced by Councilman Michael Feuer and approved by the full City Council and the Mayor. The witness who alerted the patrol officers to the May 20, 1999 robbery has not been identified and it is believed that person does not know about the reward. The witness may be eligible to apply for the reward. The officers who arrested Holguin can identify the citizen and citizen’s vehicle if that person steps forward.

On May 24, 1999, ten counts of robbery and one count of ex-felon in possession of a firearm were filed by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office against Holguin. The investigation is continuing and many additional charges may be filed depending on the results of the investigation.

A press conference was held on May 25, 1999 at Hollywood Community Police Station.
