Los Angeles Police Department Holds Blood Drive Competition for Cedars-Sinai NA17158ml

August 24, 2017

WHAT: Six Los Angeles Police Department divisions are competing to see who can register the most blood donors in the third annual LAPD blood drive competition. Last year’s winners was Wilshire Division and West Traffic Division and yielded 147 units of blood — enough to help nearly 300 patients.

WHEN: Thursday, August 24, 2017 – Hollywood Division 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2016 – West Los Angeles Division 2:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.

WHERE: Media are invited to cover the blood donor competition at two locations: Hollywood Division – 1358 North Wilcox Avenue Los Angeles, Ca 90028 West Los Angeles Division – 1663 Butler Avenue Los Angeles, Ca 90025

WHO: As a Level 1 Trauma Center, Cedars-Sinai works closely with the Los Angeles Police Department. Perhaps no one knows better than first-responders the importance of a healthy blood supply during emergency situations. The LAPD has been a longtime supporter of Cedars-Sinai’s Blood Donor Services, participating in numerous blood drives over the years.

WHY: A single blood donation can help save the lives of two people. The need for blood products is great. Each year, Cedars-Sinai patients receive transfusions totaling more than 30,000 units of red blood cells, 7,000 units of platelets and 11,000 units of plasma. These life-saving blood products come from donors who give of their time and blood, usually for patients they don’t know personally.
