WHY:
The Operations-Valley Bureau Spanish Community Police Academy program will provide community members with an inside look at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and various facets of law enforcement. During the Academy, students will be introduced to basic police operations which will include: The History of the LAPD, the Department’s Organization and Structure, Communications, Gang Awareness, Homicide Crime Scene Investigation, Traffic Policy, Pursuit Policy, Driving Under the Influence, Use of Force, Shooting Policy, and Force Option Simulator training. Experienced Police Officers will teach the free Academy classes. Students will have the opportunity to meet the Commanding Officers of OVB, and various members of the LAPD. LAPD hopes to provide a greater understanding and awareness of our role with the community.
