Automated Photo Red Light Enforcement Program

What:
Announcing the activation of the photo red light traffic enforcement camera within Operations-Central Bureau (OCB). This is the fifth activation within OCB (27th in the City) with a new PRL monitoring system, which records vehicle license plates that run red lights. In the near future, 5 additional locations will be outfitted with comparable machinery, totaling 32 intersections Citywide.

Intersection of Alameda Street and Cesar Chavez Avenue.

Who:
Sergeant Matthew MacWillie, Traffic Coordination Section

Why:
To increase intersection safety and reduce the number of serious and fatal traffic collisions caused by motorists who fail to stop for red lights. This will be accomplished by changing driver behavior through public education and through high profile enforcement.
