Los Angeles: On Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at approximately 4:50 p.m., the suspect Jose Solis, a 28 year old resident of Los Angeles, was driving his 1987 Honda Accord while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The suspect was traveling northbound Soto Street in the southbound lanes of traffic when he collided with the first victim, an unidentified female Hispanic, who was walking eastbound Soto Street in the marked crosswalk. The suspect continued out of control running the red tri-light signal at Soto Street and First Street where he then collided with a second victim who was driving a 1991 Honda Accord. The second victim is identified as 31-year old Romelia Martinez.
The first victim was transported to USC Medical Center where she died of her injuries. The second victim was transported to a local hospital with complained of injuries only.
The suspect was arrested and booked for Penal Code Section 187 (A), Murder.
