LOS ANGELES – Explorer and noted director James Cameron, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution President and Director Susan K. Avery, California Science Center President Jeffrey Rudolph and MUSE School Founder Suzy Amis Cameron will celebrate the send-off of the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER, the submarine Cameron engineered for his historic dive to 35,787 feet in the Challenger Deep, as it begins its cross-country journey to its final home at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) on Saturday, June 1 at the California Science Center, 700 Exposition Park Dr. Los Angeles, CA 90037 at 1:30 p.m.

The submarine is scheduled to stop at several cities across the country on the journey. Los Angeles’ California Science Center is the launch point for the sub’s cross-country tour. The 24-foot long DEEPSEA CHALLENGER will be on display for public viewing from 10: a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It will be the first time the submarine will be displayed in public.

James Cameron and other officials will celebrate the send-off of the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER, the submersible Cameron piloted in March 2012 on a record-breaking solo dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, as the vessel begins its above-ground expedition from the California Science Center in Los Angeles to its permanent home at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
