The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the stabbing death of a 24 year-old male Korean. The stabbing occurred on April 29, 2001, at approximately 9:15 p.m., at 3500 West 8th Street. The victim was identified as Sung Hoon Ko.
The victim was standing near the front entrance of the Osaka Sushi Restaurant, when he was stabbed in the upper part of his body. The Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the location and transported the victim to USC Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injury.
The motive for the crime is unknown. It is currently believed that the suspect is probably a male Hispanic familiar with the area. A Spanish-speaker will be available at the press conference to provide details to the Spanish-speaking media and community.
