Who:LAPD Officers from Central Traffic Division (CTD)
Why:It is believed the majority of hit and run traffic collisions involve either drunk or unlicensed drivers. Driving under the influence of alcohol is unacceptable behavior causing impairment, often leading to property damage, injury or death. A driver without a license who operates a vehicle is subject to having that vehicle impounded.
Additional:The Los Angeles Police Department has been awarded a $2.4 million grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to reduce citywide traffic collisions. Operations Central Bureau has been allotted $392,000 in overtime funds to conduct field operations in the following areas of enforcement:
Driving Under the Influence Saturation Patrols
Illegal Street Racing Task Forces
Suspended/Unlicensed Driver Saturation Patrols/Checkpoints
Seat Beat Saturation Patrols
