"Security Guard Injured During Attempt Robbery – UPDATE"
 
Los Angeles: On May 1, 2003, at approximately 9:20 a.m., a male Black suspect armed with a 9mm handgun wearing a dark brown long sleeve shirt, dark pants, white tennis shoes, dark wool-type cap and a dark colored bandana over the lower portion of his face approached the armed security guard in front of the Bank of America located at 1223 Ventura Boulevard in North Hollywood.
The suspect and guard became engaged in a brief altercation. During the altercation the guard fell to the ground. The suspect shot at the security guard from close range grazing the security guards shirt and bullet proof vest in the torso area. The guard returned fire and the suspect momentarily entered the bank. The suspect exited the bank without taking any money. As the suspect fled from the bank he again exchanged gunfire with the guard.
The guard did not sustain any further gunshots. It is unknown whether the suspect sustained any injuries during the exchange of gunfire. The security guard was transported to Sherman Oaks Hospital where he was treated for an injury to his shoulder sustained during his fall. The security guard, a male Asian in his late fifties, was later released.
