"Robbery Suspects Kills One Security Guard and Injures Another in Bank Holdup"

On Monday, February 5, 2001 at approximately 6:15 p.m., an armed robbery occurred at the Bank of America, inside of an Albertson’s supermarket, located at 13051 Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood Division. During the robbery two suspects with ski masks, black clothing, and armed with semi-automatic assault rifles rushed into the supermarket. Two armed Brink’s guards were in the location to service the bank when the suspects entered the bank. One suspect forced entry in to the vault area of the bank and shot and killed one of the guards. The second guard, who at the time was standing near the ATM machine, heard the commotion, and looked up in time to see the two suspects approaching him with their rifles pointed at him. The second guard ran out of the location and as he did so, the suspects fired their weapons at him. One of the suspects grabbed a bag containing cash. Both suspects fled to an awaiting vehicle driven by a third suspect. Witnesses described the suspects’ vehicle as a white Chevrolet Astro van. Patrol officers obtained the license plate from witnesses. A check of the plate through DMV revealed the vehicle was stolen from the Northridge area in Devonshire Division during the early morning hours on February 5th.
The guard inside of the vault area expired at the scene due to multiple gunshot wounds. The second guard received superficial wounds to his back from scrapnel and flying debris and was released from the hospital.
Detectives assigned to Robbery-Homicide Division, Bank Section are currently handling this murder/robbery investigation.
The suspects’ getaway vehicle was recovered this morning in the city of Van Nuys.
The deceased Brink’s guard was identified as Ignacio David Delgado, 51 years of age, of Canoga Park. The partner guard is Mike Kotnik.
