Neighbor Poisons Dog

Los Angeles: The Animal Cruelty Task Force served a search warrant in the 6100 block of Riverton Avenue that led to the arrest of 54-year-old Lawrence Rothfork.

Rothfork had been involved in an on-going neighbor dispute regarding his neighbor’s dog alleged constant barking. The dog’s owner saw Rothfork throwing food into her yard, near the dog on more then one occasion. When the dog started getting sick, the owner took some of the food thrown by Rothfork to the animal shelter to have it analyzed. The food was tested and it was determined to contain poison and other toxic substances.

On Tuesday, January 30, 2007, the Animal Cruelty Task Force served a search warrant at Rothfork’s home and recovered rat poison, several other ingredients that were found in the analyzed poisoned food, and multiple firearms.
Rothfork was arrested for Animal Cruelty and his bail was set at $20,000 dollars.

The Animal Cruelty Task Force is a joint partnership between the Department of Animal Services, Los Angeles Police Department, and the City Attorney’s Office. Their mission is to fight animal cruelty and neglect in the City of Los Angeles.
