Hit and Run Driver Turns Himself In

Los Angeles: On October 4, 2004, at around 6:25 a.m., an unknown driver in a 1987 Acura Integra drove southbound on San Pedro Street when he collided with four pedestrians crossing the street eastbound. After the collision, the suspect drove away from the scene without identifying himself or rendering aid to the injured pedestrians. The driver then abandoned his car in front of 137 ½ East 31st Street and ran from the location.
All four of the pedestrians were injured. An 18 year-old male victim suffered a broken clavicle and head trauma and is listed in critical condition. His 15 year-old sister suffered a broken left leg, was treated for her injury and was released from the hospital. A seven year-old male suffered a broken left femur, head trauma and is also listed in critical condition. The 27 year-old mother of the young boy suffered a broken left leg, was treated for her injury and was released from the hospital.
That afternoon, at around 6:00 p.m., 18 year-old Efren Huerta, a resident of Los Angeles turned himself in at Newton Community Police Station. He was booked for Vehicle Code Section 20001(a), Felony Hit and Run with bail set at $50,000.
