Confrontation On Sidewalk Results In Shooting Death

Los Angeles: On Friday, March 7, 2003, at approximately 3:26 a.m., Rampart patrol officers responded to a "Shots Fired" investigation in the 200 block of South Berendo Street. Upon arrival, the officers observed the victim down on the sidewalk, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed, the victim was confronted by the suspect in front of the above location. The suspect fired rounds at the victim, striking him in the head. The motive for the shooting is unknown. The identity of the suspect and the type of weapon used are unknown at this time. The identity of the victim will not be released until the next of kin have been notified.
