“Rampart Detectives Investigate Homicide on South Union Avenue”

Los Angeles: On September 15, 2001, at approximately 3:20 A.M., Rampart Patrol Officers responded to an, “Assault with a Deadly Weapon Shots Fired” call at 716 South Union Ave.

Upon arrival officers observed the victim who was being treated by Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics inside of the lobby of the Stewart Hotel. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was transported to USC Medical Center where he died as the result of his injury.

The investigation revealed witnesses observed the victim sitting in a chair inside of the lobby when suspects drove by and fired shots into the window striking the victim. The suspects fled southbound on Union Avenue towards 8th Street. The suspects were described as possibly two male Hispanics, no further description.

The vehicle is described as a 90/97 red Honda, 4dr, no further description. The weapon used is a large caliber gun. The victim is described as a male Hispanic, 32 years old. His identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The motive for the shooting is unknown. The suspect and weapon are outstanding. Rampart Homicide Detectives C. Silva and S.
