" Rampart Detectives Investigate Homicide on Shatto Place"
 
Los Angeles: On Sunday, September 16, 2001 at approximately 4:20 A.M., Rampart Patrol Officers responded to a, "Assault with a Deadly Weapon Shots Fired" radio call at 7th Street and Shatto Place. Upon arrival officers observed the victim, described as a male Hispanic in his early twenties, who was down on the sidewalk, in front of 687 South Shatto Place. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported the victim to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died as the result of his injury.
The investigation revealed witnesses called the police after hearing numerous gunshots. The suspects, described only as two male Hispanics, were last seen running southbound from the location.
Numerous vehicles and buildings sustained damage from the gunfire that erupted at the location.
The motive for the shooting is unknown. The suspects and weapon used are outstanding.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
