"Victim Fatally Shot in the Rampart Area"

Los Angeles – On Monday, July 31, 2000, at approximately 9:05 p.m., witnesses heard several gunshots and observed the victim stagger and then fall to the sidewalk on the southwest corner of Rampart Boulevard and 3rd Street. After the shooting, witnesses saw two male Hispanics with shaved heads running southbound on Rampart Boulevard. The two suspects entered a white vehicle parked on the street. The vehicle driven by a third male Hispanic suspect fled south on Rampart Boulevard from 3rd Street.

LAFD paramedics responded to the scene. The victim was transported to U.S.C. Medical Center where the victim succumbed to a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead.

The motive for this shooting is believed to be gang related. The suspects and weapon(s) are outstanding. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
