Los Angeles: On Monday, November 10, 2003 at 11:30 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers from Valley Traffic Division are asking pedestrians to use caution when crossing streets, cross lawfully at intersections and avoid serious injury or death.
In the San Fernando Valley this year there have been 77 fatal traffic collisions, 33 of those cases have involved pedestrians. These 33 pedestrian fatal collisions represent 83% increase over last year. Pedestrians were at fault in 2 out of 3 of these fatal collisions, by unlawfully crossing the street mid-block.
