"Suspects Kill 1 and Injure Another During Vehicle Chase"

Los Angeles – On Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at 9:15 p.m., Van Nuys Uniformed Patrol Officers responded to a radio call of "ADW, Shots Fired, Ambulance En route" located at 6586 Van Nuys Boulevard. Officers discovered, at the scene, two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

A preliminary investigation revealed that suspect(s) in a vehicle, were chasing the victim’s vehicle, along the route the suspects fired numerous times at the victims. The chase ended at the above location. The motive is unknown at this time and the suspect(s) are still outstanding.

Victim – 1, Ricardo Tellez, 21 years old, male Hispanic, from Pacoima, was still inside the vehicle. Tellez expired from a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:24 p.m.

Victim – 2, Gilberto Cuevas, 20 years old, male Hispanic, also from Pacoima, the driver of the vehicle. Cuevas suffered a gunshot wound to his arm and was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in fair condition.
