Suspect Identified in the Shooting Death of Victim Ricardo Tellez

"Suspect Identified in the Shooting Death of Victim Ricardo Tellez"

Los Angeles – On Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at 9:15 p.m., Van Nuys Uniformed Patrol Officers responded to a radio call of "ADW, Shots Fired, Ambulance En route" located at 6586 Van Nuys Boulevard. Officers discovered at the scene, two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect(s) in a vehicle, were chasing the victim’s vehicle, along the route the suspects fired numerous times at the victims. The chase ended at the above location. The motive is unknown at this time and the suspect(s) are still outstanding.

Victim – 1, Ricardo Tellez, 21 years old, male Hispanic, from Pacoima, was still inside the vehicle. Tellez expired from a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:24 p.m.

Victim – 2, Gilberto Cuevas, 20 years old, male Hispanic, also from Pacoima, the driver of the vehicle. Cuevas suffered a gunshot wound to his arm and was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in fair condition.

Van Nuys Homicide Detective Al Aldaz is handling the investigation.

On Thursday, August 3, 2000, at 11:00 a.m., Detective Al Aldaz of the Van Nuys Homicide Unit, will hold a press conference announcing the identity of the suspect responsible for the murder of victim Ricardo Tellez. Family members of Ricardo Tellez will be available for media interviews. Photographs of the suspect will be available for the media to view as well. Van Nuys Community Police Station is located at 6240 Sylmar Avenue in Van Nuys, California.
