The mission of the Evidence and Property Management Division is to support the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), as well as outside law enforcement agencies operating under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the LAPD, by maintaining the chain of custody for all evidence and property from the time of booking until the adjudication of the case, when items are either released or authorized for disposition. All evidence, property, and corresponding reports submitted by Department personnel are reviewed for completeness and accuracy prior to acceptance. In addition, Evidence and Property Management personnel assess the items received to determine appropriate containerization to preserve the integrity of the evidence before placing them in a secure storage location based on evidence type.

They address the specific needs of evidence and property handling for the processing of narcotics, currency, firearms, hazardous materials, biological evidence and high-value articles. The Commanding Officer of Evidence and Property Management Division is Police Administrator Betty Collins.
