OCTOBER 2020 APPROVED UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT ITEMS

UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT COMMITTEE

NOTICE
1.12

October 8, 2020

TO: All Concerned Personnel

FROM: Chairperson, Uniform and Equipment Committee

SUBJECT: OCTOBER 2020 APPROVED UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT ITEMS

The Uniform and Equipment Committee and the Chief of Police have approved the following
uniform and equipment items:

1. APPROVAL OF AXON BODY WORN VIDEO WING MOUNT
The magnetized Flex Body Worn Video (BWV) mounts have been failing to remain
secured to the wearer during various use of force incidents, as well as with other field
operations. The AXON Wing Mount was evaluated and was found to fill the void, and
provides a more secure option to mounting the BWV to the uniform shirt without any
physical uniform modifications, and is approved. The use of a secondary cloth material
placed behind the uniform shirt, in between the mount base and uniform shirt, drastically
reduces wear to the uniform.

Note: Once the magnetized Flex mount has been replaced by the Wing mount, the
magnetized Flex mount will no longer be authorized for use. The Heavy Duty Magnet
Mount is still authorized. This Notice does not change existing policy related to Body
Worn Video.

2. APPROVAL OF NEW BALLISTIC HELMET AND PAULSON UNIVERSAL
FACE SHIELD MOUNT SYSTEM
A product evaluation was conducted for a new ballistic helmet that was lighter, provided
a broader field of view to the wearer, protected against more small arms projectile
impacts, and had enhanced padding and suspension for weight management. Based on
the field testing, the evaluation process as well as independent scientific data, the
following helmets are approved for bidding and selection for the Department approved
helmet:

lettering, depicting the employee’s name affixed to the front of the helmet. A Velcro
