Mission Statement

Through early intervention in workplace conflicts and misunderstandings, LAPD’s Ombuds Section helps foster healthy, productive work environments and provides an alternative for resolving matters addressed via grievance, personnel complaint, or lawsuit.

Confidential – Neutral – Impartial

The Ombuds Section services are confidential, neutral, and impartial and are available to Department employees of any rank, sworn or civilian. We have helped individuals ranging from new hires and probationary employees to tenured personnel near retirement. We have worked with very small groups and entire commands.

Ombuds is a neutral party and generally does not become involved in issues already being handled by the grievance process, a personnel complaint or lawsuit. However, we can often help with ancillary issues even if another process is being used; please contact one of the Ombuds Section supervisors listed below to explore the possibilities. If the issue is outside the scope of Ombuds, we will provide referrals to the appropriate entity.

The California Evidence Code provides many protections for communications considered part of the mediation process. Contact an Ombuds Associate if you would like more information.
