"Man Shot to Death by Unknown Assailants"

Los Angeles - On Sunday, April 23, 2000 at approximately 1:05 pm, 23 year old Juan Lopez and his nephew were traveling eastbound in Mr. Lopez' car on Denni Street approaching Fries Avenue. Mr. Lopez and his 17 year old nephew were being followed by a dark blue, Ford Explorer. Mr. Lopez, who was driving, stopped for a posted stop sign at the corner of Denni and Fries. At that time the Ford Explorer stopped immediately behind Mr. Lopez, a suspect in that vehicle shot several rounds at Mr. Lopez' car, and fled northbound First Avenue. Mr. Lopez, the victim, was struck multiple times by the gunfire and was transported by LAFD Paramedics to a local hospital. The victim died as the result of his injuries at 11:45 a.m., on April 24, 2000.

The motive for the crime appears to be gang related. The suspects and murder weapon are outstanding.

Harbor Area Homicide Detectives are handling the investigation. Anyone with information concerning this incident is requested to call 310-548-7447.
