"Driver killed after giving ride to Strangers"

Hollywood - On Sunday, April 9, 2000, at approximately 11:39 p.m., Hollywood officers responded to a radio call of shots fired in the 900 block of Martel Avenue. On arrival, the officers discovered that a male Hispanic, approximately 42 years of age, had sustained several gunshot wounds.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Paramedics responded and attempted to render aid.

The victim subsequently expired at the scene. The victim's identity is being withheld, pending notification of his next of kin.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the deceased and a friend were the victims of a carjacking. The suspects are described as a male, Hispanic, 5-6, 150, 20 to 25 years of age, and a possible female Hispanic, no further description. The suspects fled in the victims' 1990 Nissan Maxima, four-door, black in color, with a California license number of 4GIH813.
