Los Angeles: On Saturday, December 27, 2003, at about 9:19 a.m., Police Officer III Alfred Gonzales, Serial No. 31813, eight years with the Department and Police Officer II John Hatfield Serial No. 34470, 6 years with the Department, were driving westbound in a black and white police vehicle at the 1300 block of East 112th Street. The officers observed suspect, Marcus Williams, male black, 19 years of age, walking westbound across 112th Street carrying a shotgun, partially wrapped in a gray shirt. Officer’s Gonzales and Hatfield stopped and exited the police vehicle and took cover behind their respective vehicle door and drew their service pistols. Officer Gonzales ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, at which time, the suspect pointed his shotgun at the officers. Officer Hatfield, in fear of his and his partners life, fired one round from his 45. caliber service pistol. The suspect, uninjured fled on foot with the shotgun and entered a residence located on the 1300 block of East 111th Place. Officers established a perimeter around the residence and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Metropolitan Division, responded and took the suspect into custody without incident.

A shotgun and a handgun was recovered inside the residence.
