COMMUNITY-POLICE ADVISORY BOARD

•    The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance
Led by Co-Chair Mona Sutton.

•    Opening Remarks Co-Chair Mona Sutton thanked everyone for attending
the C PAB meeting tonite.  She thanked our Dedicated LAPD Officers for
everything they do for the Community.

•    Captain Hayes informed C PAB of the recent shooting on 227th and Halldale. March 4th Five adults and three children were in a SUV driving. A 6 year-old boy was shot in the head.  He is in critical condition on life support in the hospital. Within less than 24 hours two men have been arrested.  If convicted they could be sentenced a 100 years.

•    March 17, 2008,  Two Officer involved shootings took place in Wilmington, both were unrelated incidents.  Captain Hayes explained in depth what the officer’s went thru.

•    Captain Hayes acknowledged Harbor will be getting four new officers. Three tenured Police officer’s and one new officer from the Police Academy.  There is a freeze on hiring Civilian employees at this time.

•    Sergeant Catherine Plows, Community Relations Office.  Out of concern over recent crimes. Asked what can we do as the Police Advisory Board to help the Community communicate with one another better?  Racial understanding.  Cultural differences .We discussed Days of Dialogue There is a difference between Dialogue and collaboration.  A survey flyer will be made up and sent out to C PAB to discuss this further and start our Days of Dialog.

•    COP 101- Special Guest Jennifer Chavis PSR, Communication Division, advised you should call 911 for emergencies only and why you are asked questions.  Landline is better option to use or pay phone than a cell phone.

•    Teen C PAB Conference April 17, 2008 Crown Plaza in San Pedro

•    Mary Gant announced April 26, 2008 Clean- up Day in Wilmington

•    April 5, 2008 Harbor Gateway Community Clean-up Day

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm 
Next C PAB Meeting will be April 17, 2008 at 6:30 P.M.
