LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, January 2, 2001

"19 Year Old Dies from Shooting"

North Hills - On Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at 9:42 p.m., Devonshire Area Officers responded to the 15200 block of Acre Street regarding a possible "ADW with shots fired" radio call. Within minutes, the officers arrived at the location and were unable to locate a victim or witness. At 9:56 p.m., Devonshire Area Officers responded to Mission Community Hospital located at 14850 Roscoe Boulevard regarding a victim of a shooting. When the officers arrived, it was learned that several citizens, who observed the victim attempting to crawl to his car, transported the victim to the hospital from the 15200 block of Acre Street. The victim was pronounced dead by the attending physician at 9:56 p.m. resulting from an unspecified number of gunshot wounds to the upper body.

The officers canvassed the 15200 block of Acre Street and learned from residents that shortly after several gunshots were heard, two unknown male individuals were seen running from the area.

The victim has been identified as Leonardo Tadeo, a 19 year-old resident of Van Nuys. Devonshire Homicide personnel are attempting to locate additional witnesses. The motive for the murder has not been established at this time and the identity of the suspects is unknown. The location of the shooting is beleaguered with narcotic sales and gang related activity.

Anyone with information should contact Devonshire Area detectives at 818-756-8291.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
