Domestic Violence Takes a Deadly Turn

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollenbeck Area Homicide Detectives are investigating a domestic violence incident that escalated into the shooting death of a Los Angeles man.

On January 3, 2003 at 4:45 a.m., LAPD Hollenbeck Area patrol officers responded to a "Burglary In Progress" radio call on the 2700 block of Winter Street in Los Angeles.

Upon arrival to the residence, officers found 22 year-old Angel Arroyo suffering from a gunshot wound.

The initial officer’s investigation revealed that victim Arroyo, and his female companion who lived in the residence with their children, were embroiled in a continuous domestic dispute that included violent physical abuse. According to the investigation, prior to the shooting, Arroyo had beaten the woman and fled the location. Later the same evening, Arroyo returned and began to beat the female again when she shot him with a handgun.

Transported to USC Medical Center, Arroyo was pronounced dead by the attending physicians. At the time of this press release, the unidentified woman who shot Arroyo was taken into custody and held for questioning.
