Kevin J. Jablonski
Dr. Kevin J. Jablonski, Chief Police Psychologist, serves as the Commanding Officer of Behavioral Science Services. He is responsible for overseeing those matters related to the psychological health and wellbeing of Department employees. His responsibilities include managing the Division’s operations, policy and procedure related to psychological matters within the Department, and providing a range of mental health services within the Department. He is also responsible for the development and implementation of psychological training provided at various Department schools, research, data analysis and Department-wide health campaigns. Dr. Jablonski also reviews and evaluates the consultations provided by BSS psychologists to Department management.
Behavioral Science Services
Dr. Jablonski started his career in the Department as a Post-doctoral Fellow in 1996 and was soon hired as a full time staff psychologist. In 2006, Dr. Jablonski was asked to assume the duties of acting commanding officer of BSS and in 2007 was promoted to Chief Police Psychologist. During his tenure he has provided a wide range of direct services to employees throughout the Department. These services have included psychological evaluation and treatment, organizational consultation, program development, implementation and evaluation, research, and case-specific consultation. Dr. Jablonski has developed and implemented a number of innovative programs to address such issues as health promotion, infectious disease control and suicide prevention. His work in statistical analysis for the Department has addressed a wide variety of subjects including domestic violence, innovative crime reduction programs and police-community relations. He has responded to SWAT call-outs as a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team and as a member of the Critical Incident Response Team, and has assisted LAPD employees impacted by critical incidents. Dr. Jablonski also provides training at various Department schools in a variety of subjects.
Dr. Jablonski earned both his Doctorate and Masters degrees in clinical health psychology from Alliant University, Los Angeles and a Masters in Public Health degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. His background also includes the study of immunology and clinical medicine. Prior to his employment with LAPD, Dr. Jablonski worked primarily in medical settings where his focus was on the treatment of men and women with autoimmune disorders. He has published a number of articles on a variety of subjects and regularly presents at national and international conferences on the subjects of psychology, public health, psychoneuroimmunology and law enforcement. Dr. Jablonski also consults internationally on matters related to law enforcement, mental health and public health matters.
