LAPD Young Gunz Basketball
As one of two LAPD basketball teams, the Young Gun’z is relatively new to the basketball scene. Once a part of the original Department basketball team, Police Officers Jelani Janisse, Raymond Brown, Hassan Trotter, Grant Goosby, Malik Wilds and James Holliman set out to form their own Department basketball squad. With the will and the competitive attitude as its foundation, the Young Gun’z were born.
Formed in December of 2007, the Young Gun’z competed in the “Real Men Choose Peace Late Night Hoops” Midnight Basketball League. While they finished short of their goal, a renewed sense of competitive greatness was forged. Since then, the team has established a reputation of hard-nosed, competitive prowess which has brought them much success.
Some of the other charity games and accolades the team has earned are first place at the 2008 Western States Police and Fire Games, the Real Men Chose Peace Late Night Hoops, and the Bridging the Gap Community Basketball Game with the Midnight Mission.
