Prowler Linked to Multiple Burglaries

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, March 30, 1999

The Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery Homicide Division, Rape Special Section, is currently investigating a series of Hot Prowl Burglaries in the West Los Angeles Area. The burglaries occurred in the early morning hours on Thursday, March 4, 1999.

The suspect prowled, peeped, and entered through unlocked doors and windows. The suspect has specifically targeted females in the student housing areas surrounding the UCLA campus. Six incidents were reported within a three-hour span during the early morning hours. In two of the incidents, the suspect had armed himself with a knife taken from the victims' kitchen prior to confronting the victim. In one incident, the suspect severely beat the victim's face before a roommate interrupted the attack. The suspect then struck the roommate and fled the location.

These incidents may be related to a number of other prowling and hot prowl burglaries in the area. A series of sexual assaults that have occurred recently in the Palms area of Pacific Division are not related to these burglaries.

The suspect in these burglaries is described as a Male Black, black hair, brown eyes, 6'0 to 6'1" tall, 150-200 pounds, 20-25 years of age. He has short-cropped hair or a shaved head. Although he may have access to a vehicle, none has been seen thus far.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery Homicide Division, at the following phone numbers. During normal business hours, 213-485-2921, after hours, 213-485-2504.
