Priceless Russian Dagger Found

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, March 28, 2000

."Priceless Russian Dagger Found "

Los Angeles--On March 26, 2000, a display case containing Russian artifacts was broken into on the Queen Mary Luxury Liner in the City of Long Beach. Among the artifacts stolen were a priceless dagger made of solid gold and rare gems. Detectives from the Long Beach Police Department launched an immediate investigation of the theft.

On March 28, 2000, at approximately 3:00 a.m., an anonymous tipster contacted KCBS reporter Terry Doyle and informed him that the gold dagger was in a bag at a phone booth at the 6300 block of Hollywood Blvd. Doyle immediately contacted the Hollywood Station of the Los Angeles Police Department with the information.

Sergeant Robert Brophy immediately responded to the described location and recovered the dagger and sheath which had been left in a paper bag as described. No suspects have been located or arrested in conjunction with this recovery.

At 11:30 a.m. today, members of the Los Angeles and Long Beach Police Departments will formally return the gold dagger to officials from the Queen Mary. At this time, officials will request the public's assistance in obtaining further information regarding disappearance of the gold dagger.

Any questions regarding this press conference should be referred to Media Relations Section 213-485-3586 or the Hollywood Area Watch Commander at 213-485-4302.
