Fatal Hit and Run Collision on Pacific Coast Highway

" Fatal Hit & Run Collision on Pacific Coast Highway"

Los Angeles - On Sunday, March 4, 2001 at approximately 2:40 A.M., a two vehicle traffic collision occurred on Sunset Blvd and Arno Way near the Bel-Air Bay Club. A 1993 white Lexus SC 300 was travelling northbound on Pacific Coast Highway when it crossed into the opposing southbound lanes and struck a southbound GMC "Jimmy" SUV containing a driver and four passengers. The force of the impact caused the SUV to overturn and collide with the roadway. During the collision, a female passenger was ejected from the SUV and struck the pavement. The unidentified Lexus driver abandoned his vehicle and fled the location on foot. The five SUV occupants were transported to various local hospitals for treatment by LAFD personnel. The ejected female passenger succumbed to her injuries. Two passengers were admitted for observation, and the driver and an additional passenger were released from the hospital.

No names are being released pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is being conducted by officers and detectives of the LAPD West Traffic Division. Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to contact West Traffic Detectives at 213-473-0222.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Guillermo Campos, Media Relations Section 213-485-3586.
