Verbal Dispute Turns Vicious

Los Angeles: On Sunday, March 13, 2005, around 4:00 a.m., North Hollywood Patrol Officers responded to an "Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Shots Fired" radio call in the 11300 block of Penrose Street in Sun Valley.

When the officers arrived to the scene, they were told that two groups of men had been arguing inside a nightclub. Both groups left the nightclub and continued the verbal dispute outside and into the street. The quarrel turned into an exchange of gunfire and one man fell to the ground. After the shooting, the suspects drove away in an unknown type of car.

The victim, 29-year-old Francisco Javier Herrera from Panorama City, was picked up by his friends and driven to a local hospital for medical treatment. Herrera later died at the hospital from a single gunshot wound to his upper body.

The nature of the shooting has not yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to call the North Hollywood Homicide Unit at 818-623-4016. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
