The League of California Cities Recognizes the LAPD for its New, Successful Web Site - LAPDOnline.org

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, May 2, 2000

"The League of California Cities Recognizes the LAPD for its New, Successful We Site - LAPDOnline.org"

Los Angeles - On Tuesday, April 25, 2000, the League of California Cities recognized the City of Los Angeles by presenting the Los Angeles Police Department with its certificate in the category of Public Safety as part of its competition for the "2000 California Cities Helen Putnam Award for Excellence." As part of the League of Cities competition, approximately 250 applications were submitted for consideration and the Los Angeles Police Department was among several jurisdictions, which were recognized for their commitment to strong leadership, improved management and responsiveness to changing community needs.

In particular, the award was received in recognition of the Department's creation and success of its burgeoning web site "LAPDOnline.org." The web site was created as the brainchild of Chief of Police Bernard C. Parks in August 1998 as part of the Department's strategic plan to improve internal and external communications.

From the inception, the LAPD web site has enjoyed tremendous popularity, with the number of hits skyrocketing to over 3 million hits during the month of March 2000. Commander Dave Kalish stated, "LAPDOnline.org is the largest, most comprehensive law enforcement web site in the world. It literally provides one-stop shopping for the public."
