Central Area Officer-Involved-Shooting in Skid Row NRF025-17bm
The officer involved in the below incident has been identified as Police Officer II Patrick Ruddell, Serial #41941.

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department's Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved-Shooting (OIS) that occurred in the Skid Row area Friday morning.
On April 7, 2017, around 11:54 a.m., uniformed Central Area Patrol officers were patrolling in the area of 6th Street and San Pedro when they observed a man on the sidewalk being stabbed. The officers exited their vehicle and confronted the armed suspect and an Officer-Involved-Shooting occurred.
The suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was taken into custody without further incident. Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. The stabbing victim sustained several stab wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
No officers were injured during this incident and an unknown type of edged weapon was recovered at scene.
Prior to the Officer-Involved-Shooting, radio calls of two separate stabbing incidents were broadcast in the Skid Row area. It is still unknown if all three stabbing incidents are connected.
LAPD's specialized Force Investigation Division (FID) responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence. FID will also review and collect all available body worn and digital in car video. The Office of the Inspector General and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office had a representative at the scene. The complete investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police and the Board of Police Commissioners to determine whether the use of deadly force complied with LAPD's policies and procedures. The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office will also review the evidence collected during the investigation to determine whether any criminal laws were violated.
